A little something about the project

"Rise of the Spacemen" Poster

Celebration of Space

In 2019, my wife and I were asked to be a part of a gallery show at eleven2 art gallery for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. With my wife and I love to star gaze and learn about space, we came up with a concept together. We wanted to marry old horror movies with space with the question, “What if the crew from Apollo 11 stumbled upon aliens when landing on the moon”.

Color That Glows

I illustrated the poster and we went through the editing and screen-printing process together. The poster’s color scheme was based around the “Martian” green with a rusty orange and included a glow-in-the-dark spot color. The glow-in-the-dark was an ode to the plastic stars that we both enjoyed as kids.

Custom Framing

We further pushed the idea of the old horror and a nationally televised event such as the moon landing by creating a frame that looked like an old CRT TV set from the 60’s. We wanted the frame to tie in with the poster as if to show the person looking at the poster was watching the ship approach the astronaut in real time.
